Luke Russell, LMHCA
I bring ten years of ministry experience into my work as a counselor. I hold a holistic vision of the human person that attends to the emotional, relational, spiritual, and physical dimensions of life. I have a particular interest in helping people with anxiety and I believe that anxiety is often misunderstood as something to eliminate, when it can really be the greatest opportunity for insight, virtue, and connection. I believe we are often healed through our wounds in ways we do not expect.
I am passionate about helping clients embrace challenges as opportunities to develop meaning, courage, and hope. My approach is grounded in respect for each person’s dignity and a deep belief in the capacity for meaningful change.
Outside of counseling, I enjoy backpacking, climbing, kayaking, and spending time with my family—activities that reflect my love for creation, movement, and deep bonds with others.
I am available for telehealth cases with an expanding case load and will be adding an in person office at a location in Arlington or Bellingham to be determined soon.
I am applying for insurance acceptance with Molina/Coordinated Care/CHPWA/Tricare/Medicaid B. We cannot guarantee their timelines for processing these applications.

My clients come from a variety of backgrounds and ages seeking healing and understanding of their relationships and meaning in life. Some suffer from substance addiction, others from work stress or prior trauma, and many from wounded relationships in their family. Their goals are redemption of their suffering, building new ways of relating to others and clearing the pain of the past from clouding the joy of the present.
I have experience in addictions counseling and faith based work. The places of addiction, abuse and loss have often been the source of hope for my clients. Using a mixture of Lifespan Integration and existential therapy, I work with my clients to make meaning of their suffering. I believe that we are created, fallen and redeemed, and that our meaning is not made alone, but that God desires to make it with us. In seeking out healing our suffering can be redeemed.
I accept Molina/Coordinated Care/CHPWA/Tricare/Medicaid Part B. Note that many “dual complete” plans for Medicare may not be covered and it’s difficult to know up front. We can help figure that out during consultation, but often won’t know for a few weeks after.
I currently have a wait list that is greater than 3 months.
I am a licensed clinical mental health counselor in WA, ID, and Ohio (License# LH61526870 WA, 5961669 ID, E.2606269 Ohio) and NCC board certified. I completed my master’s in clinical mental health at Bellevue University and my clinical internship was in residential substance abuse treatment. My theoretical orientation of therapy is a mixture of existential and solution focused theories, with an interest and specific training in trauma therapy. I have completed level 3 training in Lifespan Integration. I am a member of the board of directors of the Catholic Psychotherapy Association (CPA), and involved in the CPA journal Integratus. Learn more about the Catholic Psychotherapy Association in this video.
I am in a clinical supervisor for associate licensed clinicians and can accept supervises.
I graduated from MIT in 2015 with dual master’s in aero/astro and business. My data science skills include DoE, data modeling, machine learning, feature engineering, survival analysis, and SEM. My focus of research is the integration of spirituality and Thomistic emotions into clinical work. I find that maintaining active collaborations with various studies and publications in mental health helps me to keep a fresh view of the field and a passion for this work.
I worked for 15 years at The Boeing Company in a mixture of engineering, management and data science roles. The radical example of St. Francis pulled at my heart to serve in a more profound and direct way than the corporate life, leading me to become a Catholic counselor. I now aspire to combine an analytical mind and a compassionate heart after Christ. Outside of Edify, I enjoy hobby farming with my wife, reading St. John of the Cross, and playing with my four young children.
